Pat's the right 'maan' for the job as he lands West End role with Potter star
The English actor will acquire a Galway accent for his role as Cripple Billy in Martin McDonagh’s acclaimed dark comedy, ‘The Cripple of Inishmaan’.
‘Killinaskully’ star Shortt said on the ‘Ray D’Arcy Show’ on Today FM yesterday that he would be starting rehearsals soon.
He said: “I’m looking forward to it. It’s a good bunch of actors and it’s going to be fun.”
The play tells of Billy’s attempts to escape the boredom and poverty of his life on Inishmaan off the west coast of Ireland in the 1930s.
When he learns of a Hollywood film crew arriving to shoot a documentary on neighbouring Inishmore, he is determined to grab the chance to be part of it.
Shortt is following in the footsteps of fellow Irish funnyman Brendan O’Carroll by penning a new sitcom for the BBC.
