If you intend on seeing the play and do not want to be spoiled, please refrain from clicking the link as the summary of the play tells the story of Billy and the outline of the Cripple of Inishmaan. Words and phrases were gathered from various sources. You can view it all here at the link just make sure to click on the full screen icon to view in full screen otherwise it will look awkward if you just view it on the page.

Dan returning to Broadway in Cripple of Inishmaan
marcie - Jan 16, 2014 Dan News , Stage , The Cripple of Inishmaan

The Cripple of Inishmaan tells the story of a young handicapped boy from a small community off the coast of Ireland who dreams of Hollywood when a film crew arrives to make a documentary about a neighboring island. The cast includes Ingrid Craigie, Padraic Delaney, Sarah Greene, Gillian Hanna, Gary Lilburn, Conor MacNeill, Pat Shortt and June Watson.

The new production will run from April 12 (Preview Night) through July 20, with opening night scheduled for April 20 (just in time to make the cut-off for Tony Award nomination eligibility on April 24). In an interesting bit of ticketing news, the production will make 10,000 tickets available for $27 during the limited run.

The Cripple of Inishmaan, starring Radcliffe in the title role, is coming to Broadway’s Cort Theatre with the entire London cast.

Daniel Radcliffe made his West End debut in 2007 and Broadway debut in 2008-2009 in Peter Shaffer’s Equus. He returned to Broadway in 2011 for a 10-month sold out run in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. Since completing the final installment in the series of eight Harry Potter films in 2010, Radcliffe has continued to prove himself a diverse and acclaimed talent. He stars in Sony Pictures Classics’, Kill Your Darlings, which, having premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, opened to rave reviews. He will next be seen starring opposite Zoe Kazan in CBS Films and eOne’s romantic comedy, The F Word, as well as starring opposite Juno Temple in the horror-thriller Horns, which is based on Joe Hill’s best-selling book. All three films were invited to screen at the recent Toronto International Film Festival. He is currently shooting Frankenstein with James McAvoy for Twentieth Century Fox. In 2012, Radcliffe starred in Hammer’s The Woman in Black, which has since become the most successful British horror film of all time, in addition to its box office success in the US. Last summer, in addition to starring in The Cripple of Inishmaan in the West End, he filmed the second series of Sky Art’s A Young Doctor’s Notebook, again opposite Jon Hamm (broadcast on Ovation in the US).

Dan’s just the man for Grandage
marcie - Jun 13, 2013 Stage , The Cripple of Inishmaan

A throng of fans wait for Daniel Radcliffe at the stage door of the Noel Coward Theatre, hoping to snatch a quick photo of him or get an autograph.

They’ve been watching him and his cast mates in Martin McDonagh’s merciless black comedy The Cripple Of Inishmaan, a show full of bellyaches and heartache.

I found it funnier than when I first saw it 17 years ago.

It’s the third play in the inaugural season of the Michael Grandage Company, set up by Grandage (the former Donmar Theatre artistic director) and executive producer James Bierman.

The season started with Privates On Parade, followed by Peter And Alice. After Inishmaan comes A Midsummer Night’s Dream in September, and Henry V in November — starring Jude Law.

Director Grandage is thrilled with Radcliffe, and when I mentioned Sarah Greene (pictured with Daniel) — who plays the acerbic egg-breaker Helen — he went all giddy.

‘She’s going to be an absolute white hot talent!’ he exclaimed.

He’s right, too; but the entire company works beautifully.

Grandage and Bierman are pleased they have established a youth company, training posts for up-and-coming directors and designers, plus free shows for schools from disadvantaged areas.

The biggest hit, though, was the release of 100,000 tickets for £10 each, many of them snapped up by first-time theatre-goers.

Posted some information about the Cripple of Inishmaan for those that would like to know more about it you can go to our news archive where you can read your latest news on Dan’s career. Below is a snippet from one of the articles I posted, there’s also a link to a pdf for download.

On another note I posted some artwork given to us by Barbara G. who kindly offered her work to us and for those who have graciously helped us I appreciate it all. Thank you to the ones who I do all this for. Love you guys and my Dan Rad girls.

‘Harry Potter’ star Daniel Radcliffe stars in ‘The Cripple of Inishmaan’ before Grandage rounds off his run with two Shakespeare classics: ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’, with David Walliams as Bottom and Sheridan Smith as Titania, and ‘Henry V’, with Jude Law in the title role.

Other Shakespeare productions in 2013 include ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ at the Old Vic, starring James Earl Jones and Vanessa Redgrave, and ‘Othello’ at the National Theatre, with Adrian Lester in the lead. Inspired by Macbeth, Alfred Jarry’s excoriating ‘Ubi Roi’ comes to the Barbican, while Antony Sher – famous for his villainous portrayal of Richard III back in the 80s – takes on the role of a minor German dictator in ‘The Captain of Kopenick’.
