Book Review: The Reclaimed Kingdom

The Reclaimed Kingdom (Syphon #1) Book Cover The Reclaimed Kingdom (Syphon #1)

Under the cruel ministrations of its Queen, the Kingdom of D’Land is in peril. With King Harrison away in foreign lands and neighboring Kingdoms unwilling to intervene, there is no one to protect the people from poverty, harsh punishment, and unreasonable rules of law – except for the Band of Brothers. Struggling with the death of her mother and the legendary Syphon powers she inherited, seventeen-year-old Dru wants nothing more than to escape her old life and join the motley crew of ruffians, pilfering from the rich to feed the poor and pay their taxes. She’s able to do just that disguised as a lad, and even when her nature is discovered, nothing changes – except for the way her friend Hawkin treats her. But Dru’s new world is overturned when she and the Brothers seize the treasures of a Prince who threatens to reveal her identity. Together, Dru and her chosen family must find a way to reclaim her destiny and bring balance to the Kingdom. If not, there may be no hope left for anyone.

If you like Robin Hood, Snow White and the Huntsmen, From Blood and Ash, or Graceling, this book is for for you.

My Review: Dru, The Hero of the story has a bad past. One she won’t talk about. The story starts off as Dru is running through the forest of Death Valley with her companion Hamilton. Traps, and devices fill the forest and those without a steady map would surely die. They make their way to D’Land a community not rich, but filled with families and the Band of Brothers. A team who fight against the evil queen’s ruling. This is truly a Robin Hood story line with a twist. I found it really interesting to read and it did not disappoint. There’s more to the story but I won’t spoil it for you. Take a read and see Dru’s world.

About Dana Claire
When author Dana Claire had several poems published as an elementary school student, she was hooked and writing became her passion. A shared dream of hers and her mother’s, she promised her dying mother that she would become a published author and that dream has been realized with The Connection.

Dana believes that a good story is made through strong character development; when readers become attached to the characters’ emotional state and are invested in their objectives. She believes that the beauty of reading is that one can live a hundred lives within the stories of books. Her own stories come to her in her dreams, and she wakes up with book ideas.

Dana’s family is very supportive of her writing and the creativity and sentiment driving it. Enjoying bicoastal living between Los Angeles and New York, Dana says she “lives the best romance in the world being married to the most amazing man she could ever ask for.” The Connection was her debut YA novel, the first volume in the Blood-Light trilogy. The Reclaimed Kingdom is her second novel.

New Project: Lost City Of D
marcie - Mar 19, 2021 Dan News , Upcoming Projects

Daniel Radcliffe is set to play the villain in Paramount’s romantic action adventure comedy The Lost City of D starring Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum. Patti Harrison and Da’Vine Joy Randolph are also on board. Bullock is producing through her Fortis Films banner with Liza Chasin and her company 3dot Productions. Seth Gordon is also attached to produce via Exhibit A.

The story follows a reclusive romance novelist (Bullock) who was sure nothing could be worse than getting stuck on a book tour with her cover model (Tatum) until a kidnapping attempt sweeps them both into a cutthroat jungle adventure, proving life can be so much stranger, and more romantic, than any of her paperback fictions.

Empire Magazine Update
marcie - Feb 18, 2021 Empire UK , Magazines

Here’s two new excerpts from Producer David Heyman answering questions from fans.

Is there something from one of the books that didn’t make it into the films that you wish it had? – Sara Horvota

We always left things out that were painful. We shot [Rik Mayall as Hogwarts’ poltergeist] Peeves in the first film and I loved his anarchy, but it didn’t fit. I love the Quidditch from the fifth book – Ron is so funny and it was good character development, but there just wasn’t a place for it. S.P.E.W. – the Society for the Promotion of Elfish Welfare – was a wonderful part of the books, Hermione’s mission to protect these outsiders.

Not being able to film the Quidditch World Cup in Goblet of Fire – that was more because it was so spectacular. The backstory of the Marauders, of James and Sirius and Peter Pettigrew – that was such wonderful colour, and informed Harry’s relationship with Sirius in a really interesting way. Those are things I missed. But I do feel like we made the right choices for the films we were making. Kreacher was almost cut from the fifth film, and Jo [Rowling] said, “I wouldn’t do that if I were you, because he does have a role to play later on.” So Kreacher remained, and thankfully he did because he was a significant house elf.

Was there a moment when shooting the first film that you realised you truly had something special on your hands? – Luke Martin

I realised I had something special when I first read the book. I loved it. It moved me. I fell in love with it before it was published. I’ll never forget being on set that first day, filming the last scene of Philosopher’s Stone where Hagrid and Harry bid farewell at the railway station at Hogsmeade. Dan [Radcliffe] was wearing these contact lenses to make his eyes green, and he had an allergic reaction to them. His eyes were red and swollen and we had to take them out – we thought we may add that green digitally, though ultimately we decided not to because it felt artificial. But Dan’s eyes were puffy and red, and oddly it was quite appropriate for the scene where he was saying goodbye to Hagrid.

marcie - Feb 14, 2021 Site News

Happy Valentine’s Day. Hope you all are doing well. I am happy to report that everything has gone well with the reconstruction of the gallery. I only found 1 photo that was lost. But I finally finished everything yesterday and put up registration for a selected few. Those that registered with the wrong keyword will be deleted. The reason for the keyword is that the gallery script always gets pounded with spam. Which is why I rarely use it.

Keep in mind that hotmail addresses never get their approval so if you are registering with a hotmail address you will have to contact me to know if you’ve been approved. Gmail works fine. Not sure about other email services especially foreign email services. So I thought I should let you know.

There will be a keyword to use with your registration to avoid BOTS registering. Those without the correct keyword will be immediately deleted. I will announce the keyword tomorrow.

If you have a problem with registration please do let me know by email at simplydanielradcliffe@gmail.com

In 2021 things will start off differently. Here are my plans for the site starting January 1. There’s going to be a big makeover starting with the gallery. When it is open you can re-register when I open it for registration. i got 131,000 photos to sift through and it won’t be an easy task. Also thinking of opening a book section for all books I do reviews on and so forth.

How Daniel Has Prepared For His Past Roles
marcie - Dec 10, 2020 Dan News

Actors are always looking to enhance their roles with real life experience. While this can be hard to come by, especially when their characters often lead extreme lives, actors find ways to prepare themselves and get a glimpse into the necessary lifestyle. Daniel Radcliffe is no different and since his Harry Potter days, he has actually played a variety of very distinct and unique roles. Here is a look into how he prepared himself to play these diverse characters.

Now You See Me 2

In the 2016 film Now You See Me 2, we were able to see Daniel in an entertaining role as the somewhat maniacal young tech tycoon. This was an interesting side to Daniel’s acting skills and overall it was a thoroughly enjoyable film. For this role, Daniel decided to really embrace the atmosphere that the film showcases.

To get a firm understanding of the true ambience and draw of the Macau setting, Radcliffe dove into the famous casino scene here. He decided to start with the historically prominent gaming staple Blackjack, which has been a part of casino culture for decades. After this, he tried his luck with Baccarat, a game that is a popular attraction in most Asian casinos. It doesn’t stop there either. Daniel also worked with celebrity magician Dynamo to understand some of the tricks of the trade, things he then utilized on the set.

Jungle

For the 2017 film Jungle, Daniel understood this would be a physically challenging role that required him to change his physique drastically. The character Daniel was portraying was Yossi Ghinsburg, an Israeli that went missing in the Amazon Rainforest for weeks, battling starvation and the many threats of this wild and uncharted landscape.

During the shooting, Daniel showed the dedication to his craft that makes him such an inspiration for his fans. To put himself in the mindset of this character as well as physically look the part, Daniel forced himself to follow a strict diet of just one chicken breast and one protein bar every day to really lean out as well as get into the necessary mindset to understand such a desperate situation. In the final days of shooting the most destitute of moments for the film, he stopped eating completely. It has been reported that Daniel lost 14 pounds from his already petite frame in preparation for Jungle.

Horns

Daniel may have spent his early years playing Harry Potter and fighting the dark side, but in the 2013 comedy-horror film Horns he became the darkness. This film has a lot of devilish elements as the main character, Ignatius Perrish, suddenly grows horns and gains supernatural powers following a tragedy in his life. To prepare for filming this, Daniel Radcliffe tossed out the indie rock playlists and instead listened to heavy metal around the clock, particularly the band Megadeth and songs like Sweating Bullets. This helped him to get into the rock and roll spirit and find the energy he needed to excel in this film.

Swiss Army Man

After playing his most famous role of Harry Potter for a full decade, it’s clear that Daniel could only pursue unusual roles after this. Whether it is his personal tastes or how Hollywood sees him, his post-Harry Potter performances are certainly not the norm. One of his most unorthodox performances came in the 2016 black comedy film Swiss Army Man. In this creative film, Daniel played a literal corpse and throughout the film he was required to show a plethora of emotions with very minimal facial movement and an arsenal of strange sounds.

Daniel regularly said that he was immensely stressed in the production of this film as he had no idea how to portray this character. He spent hours recording unintentionally hilarious sounds and faces and sending it to the director to get feedback. All of this culminated in the film and whether you loved it or hated it, it certainly is a very memorable piece of cinema history.

Beast of Burden

In 2018’s Beast of Burden, Daniel played the role of an American pilot who is tasked with flying drugs across the US/Mexico border. Of course, he must sidestep both the DEA and the Mexican cartels and return in one piece. Daniel was dedicated to learning the skills necessary to be a pilot and went out for multiple flying lessons both as a passenger and even briefly in the cockpit to understand what it really entails. Though the film itself was not very successful, the memory of the experience will certainly stay with Daniel for his entire life.

Dan featured in Hello’s Kind List
marcie - Nov 19, 2020 Dan News

He’s known as one of the nicest guys in entertainment but has also used his Harry Potter earnings for many philanthropic endeavours. Daniel is vice president of children’s hospice Demelza, a charity that provides end-of-life care to young people and which he says is “close to his heart”.

In the past, Daniel has also received a Hero Award from The Trevor Project, a suicide prevention charity helping LGBTQ people.

“He’s aware of how much he means to so many people and takes it upon himself to operate in the world with grace and humility.” Karan Soni, Daniel’s Miracle Workers co-star

His co-star Karan Soni opened up about working with the actor on comedy series Miracle Workers, telling HELLO!: “Daniel Radcliffe is everything you want him to be. Like many others, I grew up watching him and found myself quite starstruck when we first met. Dan instantly relaxed me with his kindness.

“He’s aware of how much he means to so many people and takes it upon himself to operate in the world with grace and humility. His passion for acting hasn’t dimmed after all these years of doing it. His work ethic is infectious and it is only surpassed by his capacity to care for others.”

Paperback, eBook, Audiobook

In this young adult thriller perfect for fans of Pretty Little Liars, Thirteen Reasons Why, and Sadie, a teenage girl is about to find out how far would she will go to get revenge on those who have taken everything from her.

When seventeen year old high school senior Kaitlyn Davis is almost raped and then brutally murdered at a party by three boys she goes to school with, she uses her dying breath to swear that they will pay for what they’ve done. When she wakes up the next morning, she is a bit blurry on the night before and gets a big surprise - she’s alive? How?

Soon, things start getting weird - it seems as though no one can see her or hear her, and no matter what she does, she can’t seem to feel anything, such as temperature. She can still move things around and touch others, and the room suddenly drops about suddenly drops about thirty degrees wherever she is, but why?

That’s when she is forced to accept it - she’s dead. At first Kaitlyn grieves the loss of her short life - there are so many things that she is going to miss out on, so many things that she will never get to do. But then she gets angry, and she remembers her promise to get revenge on those who had taken her life.

Setting out to give them what they deserve, Kaitlyn has no plans to stop until she gets the revenge she desires.

My Review: I didn’t have enough time to read much of it. But from what I did read it started off as two friends that enjoyed each other’s company and a bit of a hidden secret that Kaitlyn hid from her friend Dana. I am hoping to read more soon.

About Kelly:

Kelly Gunderman was born a child of the late eighties in small-town Pennsylvania. A bibliophile in her own right, she is hoping to one day surpass the number of pages she has turned with those she has written of her own accord.

Having recently completed her Bachelor’s in Early Childhood Development, Kelly suddenly found herself with a bit more free time than usual, and began her immediately successful foray into blogging and Freelance Writing, which subsequently led to her renewed desire to finally put her ideas and imaginings “on paper.”

Focusing primarily on the Young Adult genre, Kelly’s first novel, Finding Me, was published by Swoon Romance, and she is currently working on putting even more stories on paper.

She currently resides in her original home town with her husband, their two daughters, and a few cats that constantly challenge the sanity of all with their ill-advised attempts at what can only be assumed to be world domination.

From the founding member of Grammy Award-winning country music band Little Big Town, discover the heartwarming true story of a family's Christmas miracle. Cover includes sparkly Christmas glitter!

All Daisy wants for Christmas is a little brother or sister. Her parents have tried everything to make her dream come true, but nothing is working. So Daisy takes matters into her own hands, praying every day and writing a letter to Santa Claus about her one and only wish.

Daisy's parents are touched by her strong belief and grateful for her help, but as they explain, sometimes you have to wait. God will give you the perfect gift when the time is right.

In this heartwarming holiday tale, Kimberly Schlapman shares the true story of the Christmas when her family became whole.

REVIEW: This book is really cute. It had a nice story that lead to even a more amazing surprise. It was truly special The story of Daisy wanting a sibling for Christmas reminds us not to think of material things, but family. The illustrations were very nice too. If you have a child that wants a brother or sister for Christmas. You should definitely pick this one up.

A night she can hardly remember. A night she will never forget.

It’s about Dan.

These three words jolt Brynn back to the big boozy night she spent with her boyfriend Dan. The same night his ex, Erin, showed up. Erin says something terrible happened that night. Dan says he never touched her. Trouble is, Erin has evidence to prove it.

Brynn can vouch for him though. She was there that night that they can hardly remember, but will never forget. While Brynn pieces together her fractured memories, lost that night at the bottom of a bottle, facing the horrifying possibility that maybe Dan isn’t completely innocent. Maybe he’s guilty as charged.

But as Brynn inches closer to the truth, she begins to wonder: Who is the predator? And who is the prey?

Gloria knows the answer. She’s a psychic who turned her back on her ability after she failed to prevent a terrible tragedy. As her painful past floods back to her, can she learn to trust her gift again before it’s too late? Or will her painful past hold her back from saving someone’s future . . . and quite possibly their life.

This addictive and suspenseful thriller explores the fault lines between broken memories and shattered trust, and will keep you up well past your bedtime.

REVIEW: As I read “Keep Me In Sight” it reminded me of old times. Friends hanging out together and just having a good time. When Erin enters the picture and ruins Dan’s deployment party things become interesting. You think what happened to them and how they broke up. Erin seemed nice, but she also had a creepy aura. Was she telling Brynn the truth about what happened between her and Dan or was it all a lie. I have yet to read the actual truth, but look forward to completing it. I love the what happened or who done what. It’s truly one book you won’t put down.

Harry Potter Leicester Square Statue
marcie - Sep 30, 2020 Dan News , Harry Potter

The statue of Harry Potter has finally been revealed on Leicester Square’s Scenes in the Square Trail. The statue is of Daniel Radcliffe as the boy wizard in the scene where he first takes flight for quidditch. He’s been sculpted in bronze, just like his Leicester Square co-star statues. He occupies the north terrace of the very same square where the movie premiered back in 2001. Harry Potter content has also been added to the Square’s pre-exiting audio tour to coincide with the statue’s unveiling.

Harry will be poised on his Nimbus 2000 until July 2023. Pictures are posted in our gallery.

The Statue will be revealed late September and will coincide with the start of Inside Out Festival, which is bringing cultural activities to the area’s streets from October 1.

From Magic to Real Life
marcie - Aug 13, 2020 Dan News , Escape from Pretoria , Movies

New interview from El Sol de Irapuato it talks about Escape from Pretoria in a phone interview with Dan in London.

About Escape from Pretoria

“We are living in a time when it is important to tell the stories of people who have heroic qualities to be celebrated, of people with enormous courage, but who at the same time have great principles and sacrifice so much for their ideals. That’s always something important as an actor,” Radcliffe tells via telephone from London.

Dan devoted three months for preparation to learn the South African accent and the escape plan. Here’s what Dan had to say about Tim Jenkin.

“We talked a lot about what it meant to grow up in South Africa and how the social awakening to apartheid was. He told me about the day-to-day protests, what it was like to get to prison and the step-by-step escape plan; that helped me get practical details of how and where he hid the tools to sand the wood or the technique to do it, among many other things. It was very rare to hear all these stories coming directly from him” ” he says.

Here’s a new video of Dan talking about Escape from Pretoria.

WHEN THE OCEANS RISE...THE TRUTH DROWNS

The year 2031. Our future. Their present. A world ruined by climate catastrophe, where the sun's heat kills and the oceans rise higher every day. A world ruled by the wealthy and corrupt. A world where a good man cannot survive for long. Hogan Duran was a good man once: a good cop, forced to resign in disgrace when he couldn't save his partner from a bullet. Now he lives on the fraying edges of society, serving cruel masters and scavenging trash dumps just to survive. But Hogan's ship is about to come in. He's invited to join the National Security Council, the powerful paramilitary organization that protects the ruling elite from the uglier elements of this new society. All he needs to do is pass their deadly entrance exam, and Hogan will be rewarded with wealth and opportunity beyond his wildest dreams. But this ex-cop's path to redemption won't be easy. The NSC are hiding something, and as Hogan descends ever-deeper into their world, he begins to uncover the awful truth of just how the elite in this new society keep their power¿and how far they'll go to keep their secrets. In a world gone wrong, can one good man actually make a difference? Or will he die trying?

Review: From the start of this amazing book things start off kind of slow. You see that Hogan is not really a hero. He was an ex-cop who was down on his luck and doing anything to survive. It’s not until Hogan gets to the NSC that things start to get interesting.

I found this book has a lot to offer. Things just kept getting more interesting as you dig further into it. There’s a lot more, but I will let you the reader find out what happens next. If you like the end of the world type of books this one is a real winner.

marcie - Jul 2, 2020 Gallery Update

Many thanks to the ones who contributed to our gallery I meant to put this up yesterday but life is kind of chaotic at the moment. So thanks to those 5 precious angels who saved our gallery. I added June 23 candids to the gallery. Will add more soon.

Also I decided to leave the fan fiction section as is until at least the end of the year. I am hoping something or someone takes over and picks up where the admins left off. Sure I can add my writing to Wattpad or somewhere else but it won’t be the same. This was our archive for our site. So for now it will stay where it is.

I’ve also been thinking about reorganizing the gallery. But still thinking about that for now I will be adding and updating old pics with new ones. So there’s food for thought.

marcie - Jun 25, 2020 Fan Fiction

The time has come for our fan fiction site to go. Reason is that the efiction software that we use is no longer up to date. The site that hosts the current version are putting their site up for adoption and by the end of the year the site and software will be null and void.

Our site became famous when Graham Norton showed our fan fiction site on his show to Dan. So it will be sad to see it go. However, I’ve been contemplating what to do for a while now. I was thinking maybe using PDF’s or WordPress for it with links to all the stories. The question I leave for the current authors is would you like your story integrated into this or removed.

Leave a comment or email me. If I don’t hear from you your story will not be added. It will be deleted.

I've been crushing on my coworker for months. And now he’s moving… across the country. I’ve got one shot to make my move. We’re all holed up in this amazing house upstate and tonight I’m going to sneak into his room and finally Make. Something. Happen.

So I go for it. I climb into Luke’s bed and the kissing is so much better than I imagined. Why did we wait so long to feel this? I moan his name and Bam! He jumps out of bed. WTF? It isn’t Luke. It’s his twin, Noah. I don’t even like Noah. And he certainly doesn’t like me.

This will NEVER happen again...until the next day against the barn door. Why can’t I stop seeing him? It will never work. We're complete opposites. Enemies with benefits is a thing, right?

But what happens when I start to want more?

REVIEW: This book had you on the edge when Amanda slips into Noah’s bed things are steamy but when she realizes its Noah and not Luke. She is beyond surprised to see his reaction. I liked this story cause you never really knew if this was some fling or if it was something more. I won’t spoil the end for you, but it really was a good read. Rebecca put a lot into this and you could tell. I hope I get to read more from her collection soon.

About Rebecca:

Rebecca Brooks lives in New York City in an apartment filled with books. She received a PhD in English but decided it was more fun to write books than write about them.

She has backpacked alone through India and Brazil, traveled by cargo boat down the Amazon River, climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro, explored ice caves in Peru, trekked to the source of the Ganges, and sunbathed in Burma, but she always likes coming home to a cold beer and her hot husband in the Bronx.

She likes outdoorsy guys with both muscle and heart and independent women ready to try something new.

DAN RESPONDS TO J.K. ROWLING’S TWEETS ON GENDER IDENTITY
marcie - Jun 15, 2020 Dan News

June 8, 2020

I realize that certain press outlets will probably want to paint this as in-fighting between J.K. Rowling and myself, but that is really not what this is about, nor is it what’s important right now. While Jo is unquestionably responsible for the course my life has taken, as someone who has been honored to work with and continues to contribute to The Trevor Project for the last decade, and just as a human being, I feel compelled to say something at this moment.

Transgender women are women. Any statement to the contrary erases the identity and dignity of transgender people and goes against all advice given by professional health care associations who have far more expertise on this subject matter than either Jo or I. According to The Trevor Project, 78% of transgender and nonbinary youth reported being the subject of discrimination due to their gender identity. It’s clear that we need to do more to support transgender and nonbinary people, not invalidate their identities, and not cause further harm.

I am still learning how to be a better ally, so if you want to join me in learning more about transgender and nonbinary identities check out The Trevor Project’s Guide to Being an Ally to Transgender and Nonbinary Youth. It’s an introductory educational resource that covers a wide range of topics, including the differences between sex and gender, and shares best practices on how to support transgender and nonbinary people.

To all the people who now feel that their experience of the books has been tarnished or diminished, I am deeply sorry for the pain these comments have caused you. I really hope that you don’t entirely lose what was valuable in these stories to you. If these books taught you that love is the strongest force in the universe, capable of overcoming anything; if they taught you that strength is found in diversity, and that dogmatic ideas of pureness lead to the oppression of vulnerable groups; if you believe that a particular character is trans, nonbinary, or gender fluid, or that they are gay or bisexual; if you found anything in these stories that resonated with you and helped you at any time in your life — then that is between you and the book that you read, and it is sacred. And in my opinion nobody can touch that. It means to you what it means to you and I hope that these comments will not taint that too much.

Love always,
Dan

This book was the most cutest book I have ever seen. It was illustrated with vivid color and is just a cute book to own. Not only does it come with the story. GMA Network Interview
marcie - Jun 1, 2020 Dan News

Where are you isolating these days and how are you dealing with what’s going on in the world?

I am in New York right now. I’m in an incredibly fortunate position like I’ve got a lot of friends who are either isolating or quarantining alone right now [because] I’m with my girlfriend which is lovely, you know. I’m very, very grateful for that.

Also, we are not having to try to home-school children or entertain children 24 hours a day, which seems it would be very, very challenging. So yeah, we’re in, you know, everyone is safe and healthy and staying indoors so, yeah, we’re okay. Thanks for asking. I hope you’re well too.

Are you finding yourself doing different things? How do you keep busy?

Well, I’ve done a lot of Lego. It’s very good, passes a lot of time and is sort of meditative. You get to make a cool thing at the end. I recently built a “Jurassic Park” and a “Stranger Things” set with Lego.

I’ve been doing like a lot of reading, and yesterday I finally did some writing. I have been trying every day. It has been a thing of getting up and thinking that today is the day, do something productive and I haven’t really for the previous however long it’s been 6 weeks or whatever. So finally, I felt a little bit productive yesterday so hopefully more of that to come.

Talk about your relationship with Kimmy Schmidt and being part of this unique interactive episode?

The filming of it was tricky for lots of people, namely the director and the script supervisor and, costume and make-up having to remember where everything was at every moment but for the actors, all we had to do was learn all the various versions of the scenes.

Beyond that, it wasn’t really – the burden of responsibility of making sure that we were in the right timeline every time was not on us so much but I loved it. I hadn’t seen anything like that before.

I was a huge fan of “30 Rock” and Tina Fey. It’s this style of comedy that I love and it’s all these tightly wound, very like thoroughly plotted out things but there’s also a joke every 10 seconds and it’s the kind of writing that I could never do myself. So I’m in awe of it and I love watching and getting to be a part of it. It was so incredible.

What are you discovering about yourself during this lockdown? Are you learning how to cook, paint?

I definitely am not one of the people who have learned any new skills in quarantine yet. I have a lot of respect for anyone who’s like learning to sew or bake or any of that stuff, that’s very impressive. I have not done any of that.

I think I’m finding out about myself that for about 23 hours of the day, I’m pretty okay staying inside. At first it felt slowly inhibiting, but now I’ve settled into a rhythm and also we’re incredibly lucky that we’re here together.

We have got very little responsibilities during this time so all we have to do is stay inside and keep ourselves entertained so that’s good.

How do you find time for yourself since you are isolating with your girlfriend right now? Do you go to another room?

I don’t feel the need for it that much. We both like to read a lot so when you’re reading and you’ve got your head in a book that’s quite like “me time.”

You mentioned you are doing a bit of writing. What type of writing are you doing?

Attempting to write scripts. I know every actor is also writing scripts on the side now so it’s something that we all seem to be wanting to do but I would love to be able to write and direct a film. They are in the realms of slightly dark comedies and so hopefully one day, I’ll get to make one.

From a childhood in suburbia, disconnected from his identity as an Indigenous person, through an urban adulthood marked by a struggle with alcoholism and the death of his parents, to his life-altering experience at Standing Rock, he begins to find a new sense of self as a Native and as an American.

Review: This book was surprisingly a format I never read before. It was comic book style and with each illustration it told me about Jim’s story growing up. Its was really fascinating to learn about him and his life as he grew up. I found his story was really sad with the loss of his older brother. There is a lot more in there, but you must read this for yourself. If the story doesn’t move you the illustrations will. I wanna thank Jim and Liz Frances for introducing me to his memoir. It’s truly remarkable.

Jim Terry was born in Southern California and grew up in the suburbs of Chicago. His mother was a Native American from the Ho-Chunk nation of Wisconsin, and his father was an Irish American jazz musician from Chicago. Jim is a prolific comic book artist who has worked on such comics as The Crow: Skinning the Wolves; Sundowners; Alice Cooper vs. Chaos; Vampirella and more. He travels the ComicCon circuit and has self-published several of his own comic books. Jim lives in Chicago with his four cats.

See why Daniel Radcliffe Was Unfazed by Playing a Royal in the ‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’ Special

While the special sees a lot of returning favorites, like Amy Sedaris, Chris Parnell and Fred Armisen in various recurring roles, nothing beats the addition of Radcliffe, who plays an emotionally-stunted royal who is 12th in line to the throne. The  whole experience was like a crazy dream — in a good way. “I got to go in and play this ridiculous character and say some incredibly funny lines,” he says. “So yeah, it was a joy.”

Book Review: Scheme
marcie - Apr 21, 2020 Book Review
I am thrilled to be hosting a spot on the SCHEME by Jennifer Sommersby Blog Tour hosted by Rockstar Book Tours. Check out my post and make sure to enter the giveaway!

About The Book:
Title: SCHEME (AVRA-K #2)
Author: Jennifer Sommersby
Pub. Date: April 21, 2020
Publisher: Sky Pony Press
Formats: Hardcover, eBook
Pages: 456

The key to good is found in truth.

Genevieve may have left the circus behind in Oregon, but there is plenty of show still to come.

When she and Henry land in France, they are whisked away to Croix-Mare, the home of Henry’s grandfather, Nutesh, where they will prepare for a journey they never could’ve imagined. Now that they have all three AVRAKEDAVRA texts—Life, Death, and Memory—the books must be destroyed in the Undoing.

However, it’s not as simple as taking the books to their birthplace in Babylon and setting them alight. Genevieve and Henry must rely on unexpected allies as they embark on a harrowing global search to acquire pieces necessary to complete the Undoing. They’re offered cover and protection by La Vérité, the secret network of followers devoted to the message of the AVRAKEDAVRA, who, not surprisingly, are found under the big top—because no one does underground quite like the circus.

But loyalties among the magical community are fragile. Genevieve, still grieving the loss of her mother, now struggles to control the new AVRAKEDAVRA-bestowed gifts, and with mounting threats to her psyche and body, she clings mightily to the promise of a brighter future once this is over—if they can survive it. And Henry, broken by his father’s treachery but entranced by the heartwarming connection his family’s text has granted him, grapples with the fact that once they succeed in destroying the books, he’ll lose the only family he has left.

Together, our two young heirs will learn that when hope has abandoned us, the overwhelming love of friendship and family is all the magic we need.

About Book 1:
Title: SLEIGHT (AVRA-K #1)
Author: Jennifer Sommersby
Pub. Date: April 24, 2018
Publisher: Sky Pony Press
Formats: Hardcover, eBook
Pages: 424

Delia smiles at the shadow only she sees—

Something slams into her. The lyra whirls like a half-dollar spinning on its edge.

My mother is thrown backward.

And she falls.

Growing up in the Cinzio Traveling Players Company, Genevieve Flannery is accustomed to a life most teenagers could never imagine: daily workouts of extravagant acrobatics; an extended family of clowns; wild animals for pets; and her mother, Delia, whose mind has always been tortured by visions—but whose love Geni never questions. In a world of performers who astonish and amaze on a daily basis, Delia’s ghostly hallucinations never seemed all that strange . . . until the evening Geni and her mother are performing an aerial routine they’ve done hundreds of times, and Delia falls to her death.

That night, a dark curtain in Geni’s life opens. Everything has changed.

Still reeling from the tragedy, the Cinzio Traveling Players are also adjusting to the circus’s new owner: a generous, mysterious man whose connection to the circus—Geni suspects—has a dark and dangerous history. And suddenly Geni is stumbling into a new reality of her own, her life interrupted daily by the terrors only Delia used to be able to see.

As the visions around her grow stronger, Geni isn’t sure who she can trust. Even worse, she’s starting to question whether she can trust her own mind.

Praise for Sleight

“Jennifer Sommersby’s Sleight makes magic from an enthralling premise, wonderfully-drawn characters, and beautiful words. It’s hard to avoid descriptors like entrancing, spell-binding and mystical.” —Michael Grant, New York Times bestselling author of the Gone series

“Fantasy readers will fall in love with Sleight. Like a circus, it’s an intoxicating mix of beauty, humor, magic, and danger that means the reader can’t bear to look away until the final page.” —Eileen Cook, author of With Malice

“Startlingly imaginative and vividly realized.” —Ira Bloom, author of Hearts & Other Body Parts

Review: This book is the next chapter into the Saga of the Sleight the book I read a while back. It brought new characters and opened up the world to this incredible story. If you are excited to read this please do. Jennifer is a wonder to the reading community. She brings fantasy in a whole different way. In this you learn new secrets to Gen’s past what happened to the scarred Lion when she was 5 and so much more. So check it out.

About Jennifer:

Really, though, who am I? How about a list? We Virgos tend to like lists:
  • Writer, copy/line editor (www.plumfieldediting.com)
  • I reside in the Great White North, though the webbed feet prove that I originate from Portland, Oregon. Last U.S. address was Los Angeles. No, I do not miss the traffic. (Although Vancouver is #2 in North America for Worst Traffic Ever.) I do miss California’s awesome beaches.
  • I write under the pen name Eliza Gordon for non-YA titles — romantic comedies and Happily Ever Afters. (These books are NOT for kids. Mature themes, adult language, super-inappropriate jokes that will make you giggle. Well, I hope.)
  • Member of SCBWI (Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators)
  • Member of the eight-person fiction cohort of the 2007 Writer’s Studio at Simon Fraser University
  • Studied copy and substantive editing (2005-06) at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver. As a writer, I have worked with and studied the practices of some of the best editors in the publishing industry. #luckyJenn
  • Studied English, political science, and criminology via Washington State University
  •  I’m called Mom by three brilliant babies.
  • I will never join the PTA or PAC, so please, don’t ask. I also don’t do candle, jewelry, or clothing parties. Thanks, though. I’m sure the finger sandwiches are delicious.
  • I used to do all of my first-draft writing in the car, at night, in the parking lot of my favorite coffee shop. These days I write where it’s quietest — home, or my local coffee shop.
  • I buy a lot of books. A LOT. No, seriously. I have a problem.
  • I am a soundtrack/movie score JUNKIE. Hans Zimmer and Alexandre Desplat and Sonya Belousova and the Greyson-William brothers and Ramin Djawadi … and HARRY ESCOTT. *swoon* He followed me back on Twitter and I almost died. Almost. If you ever need movie score recommendations, I AM YOUR PERSON.
  • I am obsessed with elephants and otters. I’d like to smooch one of each someday.
  • Cat person. The household is ruled by an overweight tuxedo cat named Nuit and her very energetic little sister, Rosie Cotton (named after Samwise Gamgee’s wife from Lord of the Rings).
  • I love coffee, Shakespeare (!!!), Joan of Arc, most things pastry, MOVIES (oh man I love movies so much), the Golden Rule, and bloody good writing.
  • I am Team Superman all the way. I wear the same outfit every day: a Superman T-shirt and jeans, and I have a very cool Superman tattoo inspired by the artwork of comic book artist Jim Lee.
  • I adore Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit — and I ship Kili + Tauriel forever, and I don’t care if Tauriel wasn’t in original Hobbit story. story. <3 #Aragon #Thorin #Kili #Fili
  • I now have five tattoos, including the Dwarvish script from Kili’s rune stone (from Desolation of Smaug). I waited until my 30s to get my first tattoo, just to be sure I wouldn’t regret it.
  • Muses help me write — I have many. I love movie stars!
  • I hate thunderstorms, paperwork, people lacking humility, lazy writers with a sense of entitlement, and going to the dentist. Oh, and bad drivers. THE BAD DRIVERS TURN ME INTO A RAGE STORM OF CALAMITOUS DOOM.

Book Review: No Nice Girl Swears
    marcie - Apr 17, 2020 Book Review
I am thrilled to be hosting a spot on the NO NICE GIRL SWEARS by Alice-Leone Moats Blog Tour hosted by Rockstar Book Tours. Check out my post and make sure to enter the giveaway!

    About The Book:
Title: NO NICE GIRL SWEARS: Notes on High Society, Social Graces, and Keeping Your Wits from a Jazz-Age Debutante
Author: Alice-Leone Moats foreword by Stellene Volandes
    Pub. Date: April 7, 2020
    Publisher: Apollo Publishers
    Formats: Hardcover, eBook
    Pages: 184

No Nice Girl Swears is the original, trailblazing guide to the “new etiquette,” brimming with timeless advice on style, romance, and grace, and finally back in print 90 years after its original release. Forewords by today’s editor in chief of Town & Country and the editor in chief of Vogue from 1914–1952.

Heralded as the go-to guide for soon-to-be debutantes and ladies who’d recently made their debut, No Nice Girl Swears ushered in a “new etiquette” on its release in 1933, much to the shock—and delight—of the high-society crowd of jazz-age America. Today it is equal parts time capsule (how to dress for dinner on your transatlantic voyage) and timeless missive (how to ditch a date who’s had a few too many).

Worldly-wise socialite Alice-Leone Moats advises on everything from style and dating to travel and party throwing, and weeds through the dos and don’ts of weddings, weekend trips, and the workplace. Her wisdom, though steeped in the charm of her time, endures: treat others—and yourself—with respect, always put your best foot forward, and don’t throw a party without champagne. It’s just good manners.

This keepsake volume includes a new foreword from Stellene Volandes, the editor in chief of Town & Country, the original foreword from Edna Woolman Chase, Vogue’s editor in chief from 1914–1952, and a contextualizing preface. It encourages consideration of what etiquette rules we’d like instilled today, and shows how Moats helped usher in a world where women could speak—and act—freely.

“A book of modern etiquette for the modern debutante and sub deb, with an eye on her mother. Definitely keyed to the city and suburban communities, rather than the small town. Humor and commonsense combined in due proportion in answering such questions as: Shall I ask him in? May I call you up some time? What is the technique of being picked up? What should be done if my escort passes out on me? And so on. In addition, the author gives the latest usage in the matter of debutante parties, chaperonage (you’d be surprised!), engagements, weddings, clothes, week-end parties, and other contingencies. In good taste, and yet distinctly smart. The book itself is another experiment in colored stock—yellow this time—but since the books are to be sealed with cellophane wrappers, the prospective buyer wont know what she is getting until the purchase is made.”
    Kirkus Review

“In spite of such reminiscent titles of ‘Shall She Ask Him In?’ and ‘Never Speak To Strangers Unless They Speak to You,’ these chapters contain serious advice—the pragmatism of it all cloaked in a flippant and humor-flecked style.”
    New York Times

    Excerpt:

Review: This book is a timeless piece, a guide to what woman went through back in the old days. It states how things were and what you were supposed to do, but in this day and age everything has changed. I found the customs in this book were rather odd, but viable. If you want to give yourself a history lesson this is one way to do it. My Rating: 4 Stars

    Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
marcie - Apr 15, 2020 Dan News , TV , Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

Here’s your first look at Dan playing Fredrick on the upcoming Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt Interactive Special titled: Kimmy vs. the Reverend coming on May 12. First photo can be viewed below.

Daniel Radcliffe plays Prince Frederick Windsor, a young royal, 12th in line to the British throne. “That sounds far away but is actually pretty f—ing close; I looked it up,” says Dan from New York City’s Plaza Hotel, where the cast is shooting a certain (candy-colored, this is Kimmy!) celebration. “Frederick’s had a very sheltered life so he’s rather oblivious, but a very good-hearted human.”

Frederick and Kimmy’s unique connection is shown in little ways. For instance: Remember Jan, the backpack? Well, the prince can see and hear her too. Radcliffe admits his character’s as quirky as the rest, “but he absolutely loves Kimmy, and I hope people will be happy that she gets a prince — well, a prince with caveats.”

    Sharp Interview
    marcie - Apr 14, 2020 Dan News , Magazines , Sharp

One afternoon in early March, Daniel Radcliffe walked into the makeup room backstage at the Old Vic theatre in London to get his hair done for that evening’s performance of Endgame, the Samuel Beckett play he’d been starring in with Alan Cumming. A hairdresser was there waiting to confront him with some rather shocking news. “You’ve got coronavirus,” the hairdresser declared.

This was news to Radcliffe, who felt healthy enough. So the hairdresser showed him the apparent source of the claim: a tweet, from an account calling itself “BBC Breaking News,” which read, “Daniel Radcliffe tests positive for coronavirus.” That was all it took for the rumour to go, uh, viral. His girlfriend, the actress Erin Darke, had to spend the afternoon reassuring friends that he was okay. “Every time I saw someone for the rest of the day, I didn’t know if they’d heard it,” Radcliffe told me. “I didn’t want to lead with ‘I don’t have it,’ but I didn’t want them thinking, ‘Oh my God, he’s being so irresponsible, to have the virus and just be walking around here.’ ”

Of course, the tweet was yet another celebrity hoax. But just days later, Endgame was cancelled two weeks before the end of its scheduled run. Hours after the cancellation was announced, Radcliffe was on one of the final flights to New York before the border was closed to international travel. As for so-called “social distancing” measures, fans have evidently not been taking them under advisement. “I’ve felt very rude over the past 24 hours,” he laughs. “People at the airport were sticking their hands out, trying to get selfies, and I’m like, ‘No, sorry, I’m literally going to America and I don’t want to catch something and not be allowed to get in.’ ” He made it in the end, and I’ve caught up with him via FaceTime at the beginning of his two-week government-mandated self-isolation.

Radcliffe concedes he was an ideal candidate for the fake-news prank. He’s one of the most well-liked and widely recognizable film stars in the world, for the simple reason that almost everyone in the world has seen and likes Harry Potter. And he’s one of the few celebrities under the age of about 45 who doesn’t use social media, meaning he can’t dismiss gossip with a tweet. “I honestly don’t think I have the mental fortitude to be on Twitter. Besides, I’ve been shoved down people’s throats since I was 10 years old. If I were on Twitter, tweeting every day, I feel like people would get sick of me. I’d get sick of me. Ugh.” Other actors, he’s quick to point out, are “fucking amazing” on social media. “And good luck to them. But I’d get bored of myself. God knows how the rest of the world would cope.”

A decade of Potter made Radcliffe ubiquitous. His face was inescapable, on t-shirts and action figures, on backpacks and coffee mugs. The amazing thing about Daniel Radcliffe now isn’t that he remains hugely famous. That was inevitable. (“The Potter films made something like five billion dollars worldwide, to put it crudely,” he says.) The amazing thing about Daniel Radcliffe now is that he’s managed to establish a career totally separate from the colossal franchise with which he’s synonymous. He has steadfastly refused to let Harry Potter define him — and so he has proceeded, over the decade that followed, to make everyone take him seriously as more than just the familiar kid wizard.

“I’m lucky,” he says. “Most actors live with this thing where the next thing they do could be the biggest thing they ever do. Whereas I’m like, no, I’ve done the biggest thing I’ll ever do,” he says. “I will never be in anything as massive as Harry Potter again. At a certain point, that becomes a hugely liberating realization: I’ve been freed from that definition of success.”

Radcliffe’s pursuit of creative freedom comes to a head this spring, when a wide swath of his interesting projects will be released. There’s the hyper-violent action movie Guns Akimbo, and Escape from Pretoria, a heady drama about political prisoners in South Africa. There’s his TV work, including the upcoming supernatural comedy series Miracle Workers, in which he stars alongside Steve Buscemi, and the new special of Netflix’s Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. And of course there was that Beckett play.

Radcliffe, now 30, laid the groundwork for change early, before Potter had even finished. In 2007, between Order of the Phoenix and The Half-Blood Prince, Radcliffe realized that he would “need to do something to achieve longevity” after the mega-franchise came to an eventual end. So he made the audacious choice to star in Equus, the famous (and famously difficult) Peter Shaffer play about a young man obsessed with horses. Even if you didn’t see Equus in London or on Broadway, you probably saw some of the promotional stills used to advertise the production, much-circulated in tabloids at the time. They showed Radcliffe, brooding and shirtless, six-pack abs flaring as he strokes a stallion’s mane. “Yeah, yeah, I know,” he groans when I mention it. “But doing that play sent a signal. It’s not a play you do unless you really want to be an actor — and not just because of the nudity.”

His performance in Equus was well-received by critics. (“Thank God,” Radcliffe jokes.) But he witnessed glimpses of how precarious the situation was — how perilously near he’d come to humiliation, his dream of being taken seriously dashed in an instant. “One of those supportive English papers like The Daily Mail ran a headline that said something like, ‘Crash — What’s That — The Sound of Dan Radcliffe’s Career Coming to a Grinding Halt.’ An unwieldy headline, I know, but when I saw that, I was suddenly like, ‘Oh, man, this has to be good. I have to be decent in this.’ ” So he worked on enunciation and projection with a vocal coach for 18 months. “I didn’t want them faulting me for that. Some of them probably did fault me for that, but not nearly as much as if I hadn’t done all that work.”

“From the moment you start acting as a kid, you’re confronted with the perception that child actors are dicks. Getting to show a little self-awareness was very valuable.”

Around the same time he made his serious stage debut, he was invited to appear as an exaggerated caricature of himself in an episode of Extras, Ricky Gervais’s BBC comedy. An avowed Gervais superfan (“I grew up watching The Office and could still quote whole episodes back to you,” he says), he was ecstatic about the cameo. Extras finds Radcliffe co-starring in a fantasy film with Warwick Davis. Between takes, he runs amok around the set, showing off that he smokes cigarettes and hitting on women twice his age. (“I’ve made it with a girl, intercourse-wise,” he brags at one point.) For Radcliffe, the jokes rang true. “From the moment you start acting as a kid, you’re confronted with the perception that child actors are dicks,” he explains. “Getting to show a little self-awareness, to convince people I have a sense of humour about myself, was very valuable.”

In 2013, at the Toronto International Film Festival, you could have seen Radcliffe in three very different movies playing three very different roles: the charming leading man in an independent romantic comedy (The F Word), the devilish anti-hero of an idiosyncratic supernatural thriller (Horns), and the great beat poet Allen Ginsberg (Kill Your Darlings). The timing was unintentional, if convenient. “If you wanted to see my versatility as an actor after Potter,” he says, “that TIFF was the place for me to convince you I had some range.” Yet he maintains he never chooses films because they’re different or unusual. “If it seems like an eclectic mix, it’s because I don’t see them that way. I do it because I just happen to like the movie — and sometimes I just happen to play, like, a farting corpse that comes back to life.” (That one is real. It’s called Swiss Army Man. )

In his downtime, Radcliffe isn’t much of a cinephile. (He sort-of liked ParasiteOnce Upon a Time… in Hollywood “felt a little bit long.”) Mostly, he watches documentaries on Netflix. “I don’t watch a huge amount of films, is my honest answer,” he confesses. “If the film is bad, I hate it immediately and want to stop but feel obligated to finish and just drag it out and don’t enjoy it. If it’s good, I get stressed out and sad because I’ll never get to be in it.” This hang-up, he knows, sounds “really stupid and narcissistic.” But he can’t help it. “As an actor, when you see something great, you’re like, ‘Oh, man, that’s already been made! I’ll never be in that now, and if they remade it, it would be shitty.’ ”

He likens his career now to that of Robert Pattinson. Both became famous on the strength of starring roles in tent-pole youth franchises. Both have avoided blockbusters ever since, instead favouring lower-budget projects and more eccentric work. “Rob and I were both lucky to be in something super huge when we were young, and that’s given us a lot of independence, and we both seem to be like, ‘Okay, let’s use that to do as much cool stuff as we can.’ ” Although he insists his name alone is “absolutely not enough to get a film financed,” he admits that putting the weight of his star power behind a project can sometimes get smaller projects made. “If having played Harry Potter helps people see these small movies I want to make, I’m very much okay with that,” he says.

But enjoying freedom in his career doesn’t mean he’s not ambitious. He still has goals and dreams, things he wants to do someday. Chief among them: writing and directing his own feature. “I’ve watched a lot of directors and I think it would be something I’d really enjoy,” he explains. “I don’t take it lightly. It’s a difficult job. But that’s something I want to start in the next few years.” Well, he will have at least the next few weeks on his hands, I point out — perhaps he should get writing. “I know, I know,” he groans. “Everyone’s sending this King Lear shit ’round. I know how unproductive Shakespeare is supposed to make the rest of us feel.” Still, you never know. “I have the next 14 days at least. I’ve started on a script. I might as well use this time to finish it.”

    What Readers are Saying:

“Sometimes a book will come along that will surprise and captivate you, it will draw you into the story and make you a part of the world. This is such a book!! This book was simply brilliant!!! I adored every minute of it.” – Natalie, A Book Lover’s Life

“It was so refreshing to open this book up to a new kind of story, with Native American characters taking center-stage and diving into an entire mythos of lore, spiritual awakening, latent magical powers, ageless sage leaders, and, naturally, angsty young people battling not only big scary monsters, but themselves in a conflict of deep personal struggle, of self discovery, of a painful past, and of a hopeful future.” – Dustin Street, Big Small Town Books

“The amount of detail and heart Harris put into her characters and setting make The Spirit Breather stand out from the crowd. The story is wildly entertaining, the characters are easy to love, the plot is carefully crafted, and the writing is lovely. This was a refreshing read and I’m looking forward to more about Joseph and Emily in the future.” – Amazon Customer

Fox 5: Dan dishes on Escape from Pretoria
marcie - Mar 20, 2020 Dan News , Escape from Pretoria , Movies

Daniel Radcliffe, is taking on a new role in a thriller based on a real-life prison break. He joined us with more on his new film, Escape From Pretoria.

Newsweek: Magic Won’t Help Daniel Radcliffe in ‘Escape from Pretoria’
marcie - Mar 20, 2020 Dan News , Escape from Pretoria , Movies

How do you feel this story is relevant today? What do you hope modern audiences take from it?

Unfortunately, I don’t think there’s ever a time when it’s not relevant. The fact that Tim and Stephen and all the guys in that prison were able to see the system that they had been raised in from the outside for the immoral, oppressive tyranny that it was.

Why do you feel it was important for the film to play like a thriller?

It is also an incredible prison-break story. It’s amazing. They made keys. What’s crazy when you talk to Tim, he kind of has an air of, “Well, you know, I just did what anyone would do,” and you’re just like, “No, no one else would’ve been able to do this.”

You worked with your co-star Ian Hart as a child in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone [as Quirrell]. What was it like working together all these years later?

I think it gave both of us a terrifying sense of the passage of time. It’s lovely.

What’s something that you’re rarely asked about the Harry Potter franchise that you wish you were asked more often?

People always want to talk about actors hanging out, but I would talk about the crew until the cows come home, because I feel like there was a family feel on set that is rarely felt on franchise films—a real caring atmosphere that I think the crew was responsible for.

Glamour: Please Don’t Ask Daniel Radcliffe What Makes Him Sexy
    marcie - Mar 20, 2020 Dan News , Guns Akimbo , Movies

Dan answers Inappropriate Questions, Glamour’s column that asks all the cheeky, slightly off-kilter stuff best saved for a second (or better yet, third) date. Reader, he immediately started talking about his penis. And his love language.

Glamour: I’m going to ask you some inappropriate questions.

    Daniel Radcliffe: Oh Jesus!

In Guns Akimbo, your character carries his phone around even though he’s being tracked by murderers because he wants his ex to text him back so badly. I thought that was relatable! Was that kind of desperation familiar to you?

Not, I am happy to say, in recent days. But when I was a teenager? Yeah, 100%. I’ve been with my girlfriend now for eight years, so it’s been a long time since I stressed over a text, but absolutely I was one of those people that was analyzing, “How long should I wait before I text somebody?” And then, “Is it too much to put a kiss? Is two kisses just insane? What if they don’t write any back? That means they hate you!” All that mental cycling around, I did a lot of that.

I was watching the movie and taking notes and one just says, “Oh shit! We see his penis!” Was that you, or did you use a body double?

No, that is not me. I am, uh—you know, I’m Jewish! So that will give you enough information as to why that is not my penis. It’s not actually anyone’s; it’s a prosthetic.

Did you get to pick the prosthetic penis?

Um, no. [Laughs.] It was more a case of—they had to do, I guess, a color skin match so that it would be appropriate for me. Also, I think, if I’m correct, you don’t see any balls? Because the balls of that prosthetic penis were…not good. I don’t know what it had been made for; it was not made specifically for the film, I don’t think. A lot was going wrong with the very downstairs part.

You are correct about the balls. Do you believe in astrology?

I do not, no. I’m very boring and skeptical. Which is a shame because I think I’m on the cusp of Cancer and Leo, which is a cool thing to say, because on the cusp is a…I don’t know if that sounds cool. But it doesn’t yet, none of it means anything to me, I’m afraid.

I’ve read that you’re into poetry. Who do you think is the sexiest poet?

Oh! Well! I mean, Shelley and Keats. Well, Keats wasn’t really sexy. Keats was like very, very romantic but probably not sexy. Shelley was probably quite sexy. Byron, if anything, was too sexy. They all looked like very, very handsome young men who also were incredibly talented writers. Byron is just the one that you go, “You seem like you may be a terrible human being, even if you wrote beautiful poetry.”

All too common. What is the most romantic thing you’ve ever done?

Obviously, as a teenager who liked poetry, I wrote tremendous amounts of horrible teenage love poetry. I’ve done the, like, flying in when someone doesn’t know you’re gonna fly in to surprise them, when they don’t expect you to be in the country, and you just sort of arrive on the doorstep.

It’s going to open a really good dialogue about sex positivity and honesty!

Absolutely! But I feel like—in terms of love languages, or whatever that is—is one of them gestures? Because that is not my love language.

What do you think is your love language?

Isn’t one of them just telling people? And touch?

    Words of affirmation?

Words of affirmation! That’s definitely very much me. And I feel like touch, those would be my two main ones.

Does that match well with your girlfriend?

I hope so! We’ve been together eight years. I hope, if not, she’d say something.

What is the most inappropriate thing a fan has ever said to you?

Well, I had a very weird one the other night. A woman the other night at the play came up to me and went, “I just want you to know that my aunt saw you in Equus. And she wants me to tell you that your chest hair is far too much for her.” And it was all really said with the sense of “I know you wanted to date my aunt who you’ve never met or heard from before, but now you can’t.”

    Have you ever ghosted anyone?

Ah, yes. I think I definitely did. Not to keep going back to when I was a teenager, because apparently the more I do the more I sound like I was a really shitty teenager, but I’m sure I did that to somebody.

What happened? Why’d you do it?

Oh, because I was young and stupid and terrified of confrontation and honesty. So probably that. It wasn’t like a serious relationship relationship. But I definitely would have done that when I was like, oh God, 16 or 17? Oh man. I have learned.

Ghosted by Daniel Radcliffe! Oof. What’s the weirdest thing you do when you’re alone?

I catch myself being very stupid when I’m alone. I’ve apologized to inanimate objects in my flat before. Like, I opened the fridge once and coughed in it and didn’t cover my mouth and just said, “Oh, sorry!” to no one. I talk to myself.

I had to get permission from my editor to ask this question: Do you think Harry and Ginny ever had sex on Hogwarts property?

I don’t know! I’m now also trying to remember the ages that they are at the various points of the film, and I don’t want to get either of these fictional characters into trouble, so I’m going to pass on that one.

What’s the sexiest thing about you?

Oh, God. Please don’t ask me that. You’d have to ask my girlfriend. Um, I dunno. Oh, God. Sorry.

Variety Interview: Why Dan Won’t Play Potter Again
    marcie - Mar 20, 2020 Dan News

Dan spoke to Variety about researching his role in the film Escape from Pretoria, his love of the stage and why he won’t be reprising his role as Harry Potter anytime soon.

What interested you about “Escape From Pretoria”?

Just the f—ing incredible physical riddle of it all. How they were able to open the cell door of this terrible prison with these handmade keys and escape to freedom. Also there was something nice about the fact that these were people who were eminently supportable. You’re rooting for them to get out because they should not be in prison. They are victims of an oppressive, tyrannical regime, so it seemed like a wonderful story to be a part of telling.

Did you spend a lot of time with Tim Jenkin?

I did. He was in the movie in a small role. I won’t lie. I was very intimated having him on set because I was so aware that I was sort of playing at somebody’s life. We’re all walking around in costume, in prison outfits, and there’s this guy who lived through this. I kept thinking that it must be such a weird thing for him, and I worried he’d think we were trivializing it. But he seemed to like being there and he was so generous with his time. Despite having told this story a hundred thousand times, he was patient with all of my questions and just giving and generous with his time.

Do you feel a greater responsibility when you play a real person?

You do feel a real responsibility to do it justice. Not to sound pretentious and be everything I hate about actors, but it makes you want to suffer a bit more when you know there was actual real human pain involved in the story you are telling. You feel more of an obligation to try to understand what that was like.

When you say you feel a need to suffer more, what do you mean? Do you consider yourself to be a method actor?

I already hate that answer I just gave. Can I take it back? I’m not a method actor at all. I’m all about breaking down a script and figuring out what I’ll need to do. Occasionally I’ll listen to music to get in the mood for certain scenes, but generally my approach is to just know the lines well and give the director as many different options as we have time for. To try the scene in many different ways. That’s what works for me.

There are a number of articles that talk about your “weird” career choices since you finished the “Harry Potter” series. You’ve certainly made a lot of off-beat films like “Horns” and “Swiss Army Man,” but do you agree with that characterization?

I accept the label in that there’s nothing I’ve shied away from. But I wasn’t like, “find me the weirdest thing out there.” I wasn’t picking projects that were weird for weird’s sake. “Swiss Army Man” was weird in that it’s about a farting corpse coming back to life and that’s not for everybody. At the same time, it’s an incredibly smart film that has something beautiful to say about being human. I’ve done “Guns Akimbo,” where I’ve had guns bolted to my hands, but I’ve also done “Escape From Pretoria,” which is really grounded in reality. I think people saw me play one thing for so long that it seems more notable that I do loads of different stuff now.

Would you return as Harry Potter in the “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” films?

I don’t think so. I don’t like say no to things, but it’s not something that I’m rushing to do. I feel like those films have moved on and they’re doing just fine without us. I’m happy to keep it that way. I like what my life is now. I’m not saying that I’ll never go back into any franchise, but I like the flexibility that I have with my career now. And I don’t want to get into a situation where I’m signed up for one series for years in advance.

You are performing opposite Alan Cumming in “Endgame” in the West End. Do you have any plans to bring that to Broadway?

I would love to come back to Broadway. I don’t know if it will be with “Endgame,” but I’ll definitely be back. Broadway and New York have been so kind to me and it’s such a fulfilling place to work. I’m going to find a way to get back as soon as I can.

    Esquire Mexico Interview
    marcie - Mar 6, 2020 Dan News , Esquire Mexico , Magazines

New interview with Dan from Esquire Mexico. You can view the article on their website or read the English version below.

IF YOU ARE FAMOUS AT 13 OR 14 YEARS OLD, YOU MAY COME AT 20 AND YOU FIND OUT THAT YOU DON’T LIKE THE ACTION. THEN EVERYONE WILL SAY YOU ARE A FAILURE. BUT I AM LUCKY, BECAUSE IT WAS NOT MY CASE AND I WAS ALWAYS SURROUNDED BY GOOD PEOPLE

ESQUIRE: Between cinema, television and theater, what do you enjoy doing the most?

DANIEL RADCLIFFE: I think everyone allows me to do different things. Television and cinema are very similar. My experience in TV has been much more in comedy, that’s why I think it’s so fun for me. I will always love the sets because I love being there and living the whole process. I’ve done it since I was nine years old and I love being in that world. I think the theater has helped me to be better. I have learned a lot and every time I do it with more confidence.

ESQ: Do you have any favorite genre?

D: I love comedy. Making people have fun gives you life.

ESQ: Let’s talk about the issues that will determine the cinema during this year: which do you think will be the most important during 2020?

D: I think you’re right … many times the tone of the movies is defined by what is happening in the United States or in Hollywood. A few years ago journalism dominated, and I think there will be a lot about politics this year, because for them it is a year of elections. I haven’t done anything like that, particularly, although I think Escape from Pretoria has a bit of that.

ESQ: How do you decide whether to take a project or not?

D: The story is always the most important, as is the character. Generally it is when I read something and I realize that I have not done anything similar, or that it would help me to explore in my acting work; something that is original and that I would like to see in the cinema. When I did Swiss Army Man, for example, I thought: “I will never be in a movie like this; it is unique”. Other times, the decision has nothing to do with the script but with the director.

I TRY TO WRITE. PEOPLE SUGGEST TO WRITE ABOUT WHAT IS KNOWN, BUT FOR ME IT’S DIFFICULT, BECAUSE IT IS NOT EASY FOR PEOPLE TO IDENTIFY WITH MY LIFE

ESQ: If you could play any role, which one would you choose?

D: I don’t know. There are books I would like to be in. I would love to be Winston Smith, 1984. He is a great character in a great story. My favorite book is The Master and Margarita, if there was a role for me in that story it would be cool. It’s hard to say what I would like to be because the reason I like many characters has to do with the actor who played them, and I wouldn’t like to say that I can do better than them. I have no intention of doing anything about Shakespeare, for example, and one of the reasons I would not like it is that I have seen many of my favorite actors play their characters and I know I could not do better.

ESQ: You started acting from an early age, how do you think you have evolved since then?

D: When you are a child on the set you just stand and say what you have memorized. I never had a process to decipher the character. As I grew up in Potter I saw how other actors did it and tried to imitate them … the process has been very gradual. When you are a teenager you are very aware of your own face and do not want to do anything weird; It’s scary not to see you cool. Growing up, I have learned to accept my own natural rarity and better take it as something that will make me unique. In short, I think it’s about that: to become less insecure.

ESQ: What do you think makes you unique as an actor?

D: I think it would be better if the question was answered by people … there are things in which I consider myself good, and many times it has to do with throwing myself to do things; there isn’t something I don’t try, I always like to try hard.

    marcie - Feb 29, 2020 Dan News

Daniel Radcliffe has revealed he would love to star in a biopic about a musical artist – but who would the Dan play?

Speaking exclusively to Smooth Radio‘s Myleene Klass, Daniel revealed: “Boy George – that’s an interesting life as well. And so is George Michael’s, I’m sure.

“I don’t think I’m a good enough singer to play either of those. I would love to do some sort of music biopic. That’d be great fun. I would love to find some excuse to sing on film. That would be awesome. Anyone listening – write those scripts.”

Discussing the idea further, Daniel continued: “All my taste is alternative and indie. The Beatles? If I grow my Potter 1 hair, I really could. Potter 1 – like the first Potter film. That’s how we refer to them.

“If I grew it — in the first Potter film, my hair was like a mini John Lennon. But no, if we’re saying that The Beatles are a guilty pleasure, then 100% – The Beatles, I will play all night. That can’t be a guilty pleasure. Who listens to them guiltily?”

Daniel Jacob Radcliffe was born on July 23rd, 1989 to Alan George Radcliffe and Marcia Janine Gresham in Fulham, London (Queen Charlotte’s Hospital). He began performing in small school productions as a young boy. Soon enough, he landed a role in David Copperfield (1999) (TV), as the young David Copperfield. A couple of years later, he landed a role as Mark Pendel in The Tailor of Panama (2001), the son of Harry and Louisa Pendel (Geoffrey Rush and Jamie Lee Curtis).

Jamie Lee Curtis had indeed pointed out to Daniel’s mother that he could be Harry Potter himself. Soon afterwards, Daniel was cast as Harry Potter by director, Chris Columbus in the film that hit theaters in November 16, 2001, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (2001). He was recognized worldwide after this film was released. Pleasing audiences and critics everywhere, filming on its sequel, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002), commenced shortly afterwards.

He appeared again as Harry in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004) directed by Alfonso Cuarón, and then appeared in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005) directed by Mike Newell. Shortly afterwards, he finished filming December Boys (2007) in Adelaide, Australia, Kangaroo Island, and Geelong, Australia which began on the 14th of November, 2005 and ended sometime in December.

On January 27th, 2006, he attended the South Bank Awards Show to present the award for “Breakthrough Artist of the Year” to Billie Piper. Dan reprised his famous character once again for the next installment of the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007). In February 2007 he took on his first stage role in the West End play Equus to worldwide praise from fans and critics alike. He has finished filming the TV movie My Boy Jack (2007) (TV), which aired on 11 November 2007 in the UK.

Daniel then went on to make Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 and Part 2 reprising his role as the great wizard. Saying goodbye to the franchise, he went on stage again for the second time playing J. Pierrepont Finch in How to Succeed in Business without really trying on March 27, 2011.

Now being one of the world’s most recognizable people, Daniel leads a somewhat normal life. He has made friends working on the Harry Potter films, which include his co-stars Rupert Grint and Emma Watson. And is currently dating Roseanne Coker, a base production assistant who’s worked as part of the crew since Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince.

His next role Arthur Kipps for The Woman in Black which has already finished filming is due to be released in February 2012. No news on what his next project will be as of yet.

    Sharing

Data Used: When sharing content via email (this option is only available if Akismet is active on the site), the following information is used: sharing party’s name and email address (if the user is logged in, this information will be pulled directly from their account), IP address (for spam checking), user agent (for spam checking), and email body/content. WordPress.com Stats

Data Used: IP address, WordPress.com user ID (if logged in), WordPress.com username (if logged in), user agent, visiting URL, referring URL, timestamp of event, browser language, country code. Important: The site owner does not have access to any of this information via this feature. Stats logs — containing visitor IP addresses and WordPress.com usernames (if available) — are retained by Automattic for 28 days and are used for the sole purpose of powering this feature.

Activity Tracked: Post and page views, video plays (if videos are hosted by WordPress.com), outbound link clicks, referring URLs and search engine terms, and country. When this module is enabled, Jetpack also tracks performance on each page load that includes the Javascript file used for tracking stats. This is exclusively for aggregate performance tracking across Jetpack sites in order to make sure that our plugin and code is not causing performance issues. This includes the tracking of page load times and resource loading duration (image files, Javascript files, CSS files, etc.). The site owner has the ability to force this feature to honor DNT settings of visitors. By default, DNT is currently not honored.

    Christmas Project 2017
    marcie - Dec 21, 2017

This year we had a Christmas Project though we didn’t have enough submission I went ahead and made some stuff.

Amy Olson: Stage dooring Dan for Equus was something i will never forget. He made my night. I had a book shoved in my face thinking I’m not going to get my picture signed i was withdrawing it but then felt pressure and there he was signing it and a smile on his face. Dan has brought me great friends that are family when i needed it the most one day i hope to meet him and say thank you.

Silvia Caporale: Hi my name is Silvia Caporale and I came from Rome, Italy. Daniel Radcliffe roling his character Harry Potter has done to me so much beautiful emotions during my childhood and after, he is like  a brother for me who has give me the power to go on, so give him my best wishes for Christmas, career and personal life and tell him I wish with all my heart we can meet one day for realize a big dream I take with me since I have 8 years old and now I’ve got 23 years old, I hope this is a possible dream. Thank you all one.

Caitlin Norris:  I don’t have a memory of meeting Dan as I haven’t been that lucky yet, but I can share how he’s helped me. There have been a few times in my life.

During my teens, I’ve battled depression and when I was 13, I decided to send Dan a letter not thinking I’d get anything back. When I did, I was the happiest girl in my school. I found it to be a comfort that a big movie star would reply to a kid from the North East of England. Whenever I found myself getting worse, I would send a fan letter to Dan and the signed photo reply always cheered me up.

Fast forward to when Now You See Me 2 came out. Dan did a Q&A session on Twitter. Again, not thinking anything would happen, I sent a question. The day of the Q&A was exactly a year since my Granddad had died and I had been a bit down. Not thinking anything, I went to check my phone while I made a cup of tea. Dan had responded in a video to my question and was nearly to blame for another cup of tea related phone problem.

I’m hoping one day I can meet Dan and thank him in person for being someone who gets me through some of my rough days, and I want one of those nice hugs I’ve heard he gives.
