Daniel Radcliffe shows his support for young people in crisis

Daniel Radcliffe showed his support for young people in crisis last night, at a charity auction for Get Connected – the UK’s only free and confidential helpline for young people under 25.

The film and stage actor attended the charity’s annual Dinner and Charity Auction, in partnership with Carphone Warehouse, in the unique surroundings of the Underglobe, located beneath Shakespeare’s iconic Globe Theatre. Also in attendance were a host of celebrities including Strictly’s Anton du Beke, who was Master of Ceremonies, as well Erin Boag and fellow dancers James and Ola Jordan. Spelbound provided the entertainment and sports legends Matt Dawson and Phil Tufnell hosted the live auction.

The evening raised a total of £182,500. All proceeds will go directly towards providing the Get Connected helpline, ensuring that young people know that Get Connected is there for them, and expanding the team of Helpline Volunteers who provide young people with the help that they need, 365 days a year.

Daniel, 23, has been a long-standing supporter of Get Connected, which helps under-25s with absolutely any problem.

Daniel, who is the charity’s ‘Best Friend’ also took time to meet Britain’s Got Talent winners Spelbound, who provided a spectacular display during the evening. These talented gymnasts are all aged between 12 and 22, and represent the ages of many of the 1,500 young people who contact Get Connected every week.

These young people, who contact the Helpline by phone, webchat, text, and e-mail, are seeking help and support for a range of issues including homelessness, bullying, self-harm, anorexia, addiction and suicide.

The Get Connected Dinner and Charity Auction is organized in partnership with Carphone Warehouse, the charity’s principal corporate partner, and the evening was also attended by Chairman Sir Charles Dunstone, Chief Executive Andrew Harrison and many of its Directors and staff.
