The 33rd Hamptons International Film Festival will close with the world premiere of Maria Friedman’s filmed stage version of the Tony Award-winning musical “Merrily We Roll Along,” starring Jonathan Groff, Daniel Radcliffe and Lindsay Mendez.
Friedman, who directed the adaptation, will attend the screening alongside cast members on Sunday, October 12, in East Hampton.
Spanning three decades, “Merrily We Roll Along” explores the complicated friendship between composer Franklin Shepard and his two longtime collaborators, writer Mary and lyricist-playwright Charley. Originally produced on Broadway in 1981, the show gained cult-classic status over the years, featuring some of Stephen Sondheim’s most personal and celebrated songs.
The festival, which runs October 3 to 13, will also present a wide slate of Centerpiece, Spotlight, narrative, documentary and shorts screenings, along with artist tributes and programming that highlights the forefront of contemporary cinema.
