Daniel Radcliffe made his Broadway musical debut as J. Pierrepont Finch in the 2011 revival of the Frank Loesser musical How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. In the show, Radcliffe’s character is a window washer who climbs the corporate ladder with the aid of a self-help book and not much else. In this edition of our Theater Gone Wrong series, Radcliffe remembers the antics of one overzealous How to Succeed… ensemble member who managed to fail at his musical theater entrance by trying a little too hard.
A new series of musicals reimagined as concerts will take place later this year, starting with How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying performed at the Royal Festival Hall.
The concert will feature the London Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Mike Dixon, alongside an ensemble of yet to be announced performers.
Co-produced by Elliot Davis and concert promoters Senbla, the show will play for one night at the Royal Festival Hall on May 19.
Senbla managing director Ollie Rosenblatt said: “Bringing this show to the London concert stage is a great privilege. To start work on a production that has stamped itself firmly as one of the great shows in the history of musical theatre is hugely exciting, and this being one of many more musicals in concerts we will be producing we hope this will be a new form of entertainment for the public to get their teeth into”.
Davis added that the concert series “will see us honing in on the timeless classics of musical theatre and bringing them to concert in London with the best orchestras, casts and creative teams we can assemble”.
Further shows in the series have not yet been announced.
How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying – which was revived on Broadway in 2011 in a production starring Daniel Radcliffe and John Larroquette – features music and lyrics by Frank Loesser and a book by Abe Burrows, Jack Weinstock, and Willie Gilbert.

We’ve never did a birthday project for Dan so I think it would be good to join in their’s. Tonight was to mark the 100th performance of HOW TO SUCCEED IN BUSINESS WITHOUT REALLY TRYING, but BroadwayWorld has confirmed that tonight’s performance was cancelled. After approximately an hour’s delay, Daniel Radcliffe and John Larroquette told the audience that the performance would not be taking place, citing a “tragedy within the company.”
Several reports (including The New York Times) outline an accident or medical emergency that occured backstage. The incident has been classified by some as a serious injury – however, the emphasis on these early reports should be on the fact that they’re unsubstantiated as of yet.
A statement is expected shortly from the production, and more information will be posted as soon as it becomes available.

The album will be available for digital download on There are now previews of the How to Succeed Soundtrack on Amazon. Along with better video of the MTV Promo.
The Broadway revival cast album of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, starring “Harry Potter” actor Daniel Radcliffe and Tony Award nominee John Larroquette, will now be digitally released May 31, one week later than previously announced.
Grammy-winning record producer Robert Sher produced the album of the Frank Loesser score, which was originally slated for a May 24 on the Decca Broadway label. The album will now be available for digital download May 31 and will arrive in stores June 7.
