Technology will always generate and breed fear
January 17th, 2016

Daniel Radcliffe, known to millions of fans of fantasy starring in a series of films about the wizard Harry Potter, has adopted a new challenge to his film career once again, this time very high-budget adaptation of the legend of Frankenstein.

Since its release in theaters last film of the famous series, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2” Four years have passed since the actor tried his hand at various kinoamplua, but in a surprising way and make-up clown hunchback and Assistant mad scientist we see it, perhaps for the first time.

Daniel, the most obvious question: how are you? What good is going on in your life?
Not bad, thanks. Very busy all the time. Nevertheless, it was great to take part in making the film “Victor Frankenstein”, which now goes to the cinema. It was really the first large-scale project for me since “Harry Potter.” This is a big studio movie with a good budget without reference to the “Harry Potter”. I have not acted in such films, and it was a definite challenge, but also a great pleasure. I enjoyed filming.

How is this your experience is different from smaller-scale projects?
The main difference in the scenery and the camera. When you have more financial opportunities, you have more time to shoot a crane. You can do more classroom training. As for the scenery, again everything depends on money. I’ve always wondered what the designers in the movies can make the usual facilities a few different sets for a given scene.

When I first met with Paul McGuigan for the discussion of the draft, he showed me a vision of how he wanted to show London. To some extent the time was similar to today’s. Now we have less scientific and technological revolution, because everything happens on the Internet, but the Internet is changing the world just as well, as did the industrial revolution in those days. I think Paul wanted to capture the London of that time with his delight and danger, carried by the changes.

But we’ll see on the screen is not an exact adaptation of the book?
We are well aware that we do by combining different sources. Because of the different pieces of the book turned dramatic thriller about friendship. But it’s an exciting adventure – and James and I – we both see it that way. It is an echo of an interesting argument about science and technology, which goes so far in different forms. We consider ourselves very advanced, there are different people and the liberal-minded scientists who initiated the study of stem cells. I believe that this is certainly the right thing, but at the same time come to us artificial intelligence, cloning, and all the things with which we have to face in the future. Technology has always engendered and will give rise to the fear that at some point we will not be able to control all this, and this is our movie. It’s about two people who decide whether or not to cross the line; what can happen when they do it and what is a question of morality. Igor – a moralist, he learned, and for a long time, he believed in progress in the name of progress.

Igor very distinctive appearance on the screen …
The main idea of this character is that he is trying to be helpful, curing people, helping animals and artists, but as is usually the case in the circus, and he participates in the rooms. He is not particularly skillful clown, basically, he always gets ridiculed, that is what its role. On stage, he exhibited pathologically dirty character in a clown suit. When you read the script, you think: “Yes, we need to do it very well,” because there are many ways to improper filing of this image. Anyone watching this film, I have to learn there, and at the same time I would like to be hidden underneath. There’s a scene where my character is changing, and if you do not hide yourself in this stage is not the value, so I had to be sure that I am well hidden. All this concerns a person, clown makeup transforms the face is very interesting. We tried a lot of different options. The problem was that the more you try embodiment, the more specific everything becomes, and at the same time it works, but more – no. On clown face certain fixed expression, but you do not have to face was funny at the time, when it may fail. We stopped at the simple black-and-white face with black painted eyebrows and lips. He never cut his hair. His hair was combed and never looked like dreadlocks. All that I really liked.

How much time engaged in the preparation of the image for the role?
̶You mean make-up? An hour or two. Physical activities were an important part, and for a while I took the training to them. I wanted to make it look really pained and painful, and that I could stay a long time in this manner.

The film demanded strenuous exercise?
Hell, yes! I do not know of such a work, which would not require them. James McAvoy is very well prepared physically. On the first day on the set, he hammered me at the stake, and I realized that we got along well. We both love to dive into the work process.

̶You able to charge each other on the set?
̶Yes, of course, and I think that it charges and the viewer. When you come to the final satisfaction, making all their own stunts – it’s always great. First of all, it’s great for me.
For example, on the set of the first “Harry Potter” We trained with the stunt department every lunch break. They know that I know how all of this, and wanted me to do it. If it was not in my power, I do not, no one would have entrusted the execution of these tricks. Previously, it always sounded like: “It’s impossible for you to do.” Until now. And the main value of all this is that the viewer can see the face of the actor when he performs these tricks.

Which one of you to remember the days of filming the most?
There’s a moment when I had to jump from his chair and jump up on the table and then jump to it, take the chain on it soar into the air, turn around the post, and to kick the monster’s chest. All this I have done myself, and it was perfect! It was one of my favorite days on the set. Lil incessant rain, it was very cold and damn cool!

̶You were familiar with Jessica Brown-Findlay before filming?
̶Not really. I knew some of her work. I’ve never been a big fan of the series “Downtown Abbey,” but I’ve seen her there. I love about her is that she is on the screen beautiful girl, but in reality it is so easy with an excellent sense of humor and varied. I do not know if she could call herself “a tomboy,” but I feel there is something there. She loves the camera. How does she do it? Everything connected with it, downright mesmerizing. And, of course, it is a charming girl. When a lot of time with someone you spend and when you kiss someone in the frame, always a good thing, if the person also smokes, then you feel that you were not that bad. We Jess always found a way to neutralize each other in a good way. Nobody felt bad (laughs).
̶
How people react when you saw?
In filming in Manchester I went to the site in such a manner, and there were people who were waiting outside. I walked past them as if unaware. One of them asked: “That was it?”, And I realized that makeup works well. It’s always nice to hear that.

̶Well, the moment of truth: tell a real actor playing a monster or is this graph?
̶We had a real guy. I think it was important. We live in a time when computers create brilliant images, for example, when I was watching “Toy Story 3” in the end there was a great episode, but with regard to our movie – in a character for Paul was a very important human component. He wanted us to see a man using eye and not with effects. This is a powerful technique. I hope people will like it.
